Measuring the Flow of Wastewater in Oilfields

There are two types of wastewater in oil fields: ordinary wastewater and drilling well wastewater.

The ordinary wastewater contains secondary clay materials, water, RSH, RSR, RSSRS, etc. the drilling well wastewater contains well-cleaning liquid and well-drilling liquid and its contaminants mainly include corrodents, drilling cuttings, clay stabilizers, defoamers, lubricants, bactericides, weighting agents, viscosity control agents (like clay), petroleum, preservatives, stratigraphic affinity, heavy metals, etc.

Wastewater treatment of oil fields of any kind is essential for the environment, safety, and economic issues.

Because ordinary wastewater is rich in strong acidic and alkaline substances, the flowmeter used to measure the flow of this type of wastewater should be made up of PTFE or rubber lining and its electrodes should be made of stainless steel.

Drilling well sewage also contains complex compounds with strong acidic/alkaline properties. Therefore, the flowmeter applied to measure its flow should be made up of PFA or PU lining and its electrodes must be of the Tantalum or Hastelloy type.

Measuring the Flow of Wastewater in Oilfields

Given the specific characteristics of each of the two types of wastewater and the fact that both of these wastewater contains large amounts of ions that have high electrical conductivity and are not affected by viscosity, temperature, and pressure, the best option for the measurement of the flow of these two types of wastewater is electromagnetic flowmeter. For wastewater measurement, the flow meters for large diameter are especially separate types; while the ones of small diameter are specially integrated types. 

 

A special type of Electromagnetic Flow Meter is accessible for both integrated and separate types for site applications to fulfill the necessities in wastewater or drilling well wastewater measurement.

Some of the features of these flow meters are as follows:

• With a lining made up of rubber, PU or PTFE and Hc, Hb, Ti, 316L electrodes, they can be used for various media.

• They are suitable for automatic testing, adjusting, and program control systems.

Their Site installation shall be done as per the oilfield's actual situation.

• Their accuracy is not impacted by the media and their physical properties like viscosity, temperature, density, pressure, etc.

• Due to having no resisting components or flow blocking, they have no fluid blocking or pressure loss.

• The EEPROM storage unit is used for safely saving and maintaining the collected data.


• Different wastewater measuring methods including plug-in-type and pipe-type are used in the chemical industry.
