Panel Meter

Digital panel meter - the only meter you need to display the signal

A digital panel meter generally reads an input signal and displays it on a panel. Some examples of these signals are voltage and current. The sensor's input is translated to digital format and then shown as a variable, such as a temperature, pressure, etc. Depending on their functions, the meters may also work as controllers, providing a control signal that powers an actuator, relay, or other devices.

A panel meter may represent one or more output types:

  • Analog: the panel meter gives an analog output such as current or voltage proportional to the input signal. panel meters may also amplify the input signal to operate output devices.
  • Data interface: it allows the user to send the panel's measurements to a PLC or computer.
  • Set point: the value that, if exceeded, would cause an alarm to activate.

A key parameter about a panel meter is its size. Panel face dimensions influence the device's physical compatibility with the control panel. Usually measured in millimeters or inches, a panel meter datasheet describes the size by length, width, and occasionally even depth. The selected display must have dimensions that fit within the control panel. In addition, the digital display must be large enough for operators to see, depending on their standing distance.
