Level Detection in Secondary Packaging Process by Miniature Photoelectric Sensors

Confectionery bags are stacked in overlapping layers during secondary packaging. Then the conveyors transmit the filled cartons to case-sealing stations

Sometimes, some malformed layers happen. A non-contact sensor is required to detect the height of the top layer of bags, declining impaired cartons.

Which sensors can help us as a solution?

Rugged photoelectric sensors with background suppression are suitable for this application.

The function of the solution:

Just after packing, a single sensor is mounted centrally above the conveyor. The sensor detects the top surface of the filled bags, rejecting defective cartons. 

Simple power adjustment through an onboard potentiometer is sufficient, while remote control through IOLink is available as standard at no additional cost to PNP versions.

• Boarded in a miniature plastic housing
• Precise detection of objects of approximately any color against a dark or light background
• A red LED with an optimal-diameter light spot at an excellent maximum detection range. 
• Available with industry-standard PNP or NPN 3-wire or 4-wire outputs
• A second output that sounds an alarm if the sensitivity decreases.
• Connection to the customer’s control system through a PVC-sheathed cable with an integral M12 connector or a hermetically sealed entry
