Identification of Switch Washers with Inductive Sensors during Their Production

Within automotive switches, a wave washer is present. This type of washer acts to assure an excellent mechanical switching action. It also ensures a well-sealed assembly. Washer insertion happens at the third station out of 15. The wave washer's presence must be checked to assure the end-product quality. This checking should occur earlier than the workpiece passes to the next station.

The requirements of the solution:

• Small size (not bigger than M18-diameter)

• boarded at a secure distance from the moving workpiece assembly

• An operating range of 15 to 20 mm

The object has a wave-like form and darkish color. These two features make it impossible for the photoelectric sensor to sense. So, we seek a solution to detect this metal part.

Proximity sensors are suitable for this application.

• The sensor is set up above the automated conveyor line.

• Semi-assembled switches pass under the conveyor line.

• If it signals a lack of wave washers, it will stop the workpiece carrier from moving to the next station.

• Then an alarm will sound.
