Tons per Square Inch (tsi), USA, Short

Tons or Tons Force per Square Inch (USA, Short) is one of the largest pressure units and is used in the measurement of ultra high pressures. 1 ton per square inch (usa, short) equals 13,789,500 pascals.

This is the American version of tons per square inch which uses the so called short ton that is equal to 2,000 pounds (lbs).

The tsi (usa, short) pressure unit is not often used to define gas or liquid pressure in manmade processes due to its magnitude, but it is more useful in defining geological pressures such as ocean pressures on the Seabed or the build-up pressures in Volcanoes. It is also used as a measure of the strength of a material or the level of mechanical stress exerted on a material.
