Span

Span is the difference between the lowest and the actual reading or output signal of a measurement device.

For example a 1.6 bar pressure transmitter may be re-scaled to read 4mA at 0.8 bar and 20 mA at 1.2 bar. In this example the pressure transmitter would be described as having a span ranging of 0.4 bar.
