Pressure Sensors for Monitoring Bridge Loads

Another area where sensors provide intelligent monitoring is the measurement and recording of load distribution on bridges by pressure sensors.

The high proportion of trucks (or Lorries) imposes growing loads on bridges.  The load distribution on a bridge is a variable phenomenon. To warrant continuing safety, it is crucial to constantly monitor and confirm alterations in the load distribution using sensors.

Previously, mechanical markers displayed the bridge load on a bearing that was read on the spot. Engineers have recently integrated a network pressure measurement solution into bearings. The bridge transfers the loads to an elastomer cushion. Between the elastomer and the pressure sensor is a layer of grease that features like a pressure transfer medium and makes it feasible to estimate the internal pressure due to loading. This change in pressure is determined by a pressure transmitter whose customer-specific design integrates completely into the bridge bearing.

The pressure transmitter's module reads the data straightly through a digital interface and sends a caution message to those accountable depending on the measured value. Pressure sensors are made of durable and reliable stainless steel. In this application, you can also take advantage of the Internet of Things.
