Wheel Encoder

Wheel Encoder

A wheel encoder, rotary encoder, or shaft encoder is an electromechanical device that converts the angular position or movement of a shaft or axis into a digital or analog code. There are two main types of rotary encoders: Absolute Rotary Encoders and Incremental Rotary Encoders.

The rotary output of the Absolute encoder shows the shaft position at the same moment. The rotary output of the incremental encoder gives us information about the movement of the shaft, which is converted into information such as speed, distance, and position elsewhere.

Rotary encoders are used in many applications that require exact shaft rotation. Its applications include industrial control, robotics, particular-purpose photographic lenses, computer input equipment such as mechanical and optical mice, and rotating radar platforms.
