Using Access Control Barriers at Gateways to Automated Stock Area by Tanneries

The tannery concerned uses an automated warehouse handling system. Items are handled at high speeds and pose some risk to operators working with the system and to factory vehicles approaching the moving parts. Hence, access to the area should be preserved, and at the same time the area should be simply accessible. The protection system should not block traffic or unnecessarily lower the speed of operations. Therefore, it should be exclusively hands-free and have minimal operational complexity. This application meets the criteria for active photo-electric protection.

Access control barriers meet all application requirements. To minimize harm to operators or vehicles entering the stock handling area, the customer has fitted two pairs of access control barriers with a guarding height of 1232 mm, one pair at each access point. A basic safety relay is installed as a device to switch the system in manual reset mode. As a result, any person or vehicle that intercepts the beam will stop the dangerous movement of the stock handling system. The reliability of this protection system is ensured by a fail-proof electronic design with persisting self-control.
