Modern road bridges often use beam construction, and mobile cranes lift prefabricated bridge parts onto pairs of support columns. Several heavy-duty hydraulic cylinders support the ends of sections, allowing for precise height adjustment before final positioning. Manually checking the position of cylinders is time-consuming and may be affected by human faults.

Previously tested sensors were not appropriate since:

They required frequent replacement or adjustment.

Rugged sensor systems are needed to detect the position of cylinders precisely.

Connection to the jack’s hydraulic control system:

The sensor is configured with an industry-standard PNP normally-open interface and is connected to the jack’s hydraulic control system through an integral M12 connector and PVC-sheathed cable. This makes replacement and removal during routine maintenance simple.
