Detecting the Placement of Ram for Manual Punch-Riveting Instrument

Cold-forming tools are used to join sheet metals. Position sensing is critical during the production of these tools to control the operation of a handy punch-riveting device. The detection system should verify the full retraction of the operating ram and stop the tool from working if the ram is not in the appropriate place.


The requirements of the detection system (sensor):

The compact nature of the tool is a limiting factor for sensor size.
Since the sensing face is exposed to the high-pressure side of the hydraulic circuit, the sensor should be able to tolerate non-stop high pressures.

An industry-standard PNP normally open configuration
Resistance to shock and vibration due to vacuum-encapsulated electronics 
No need for extra mechanical or electrical protection


Where are they mounted? 

These M5- and M8-diameter sensors are mounted straightly into the wall of the cylinder.


How do these sensors work?

They identify the placement of the hydraulic ram, avoiding the working cycle from initiating unless the ram is completely retracted. 


Their high sensing distance makes it possible to use thick, hermetically sealed ceramic discs on the sensing faces.


Connection to the customer's control system:

They are connected to the customer's control system through a flexible PUR-sheathed cable.
