Measuring Thickness of Moving Textile Webs by High-Resolution Analog Inductive Sensors

In textile and fabric manufacturing, calculating the thickness of a material instantly after its formation is critical and provides real-time adjustments to the manufacturing process.

An accurate sensor should supply real-time measurements in the range 0-4mm with a resolution of 0.02mm  or higher.

A continuous analog output is required because conventional digital sensors do not supply the demanded resolution.

Analog Output inductive sensors are very precise and supply continuous voltage or current outputs; the range is suitable for this application. Quasi-embeddable with a chrome-plated brass frame and PBTP sensing face, an M18-diameter sensor provides detection distances as much as 10mm with resolution in the µm range.

The sensor estimates the distance from the top surface of the roller to its sensing face. It provides a discrete, near-linear, and accurately calibrated output in the range 0-10V or 4-20mA.

Measuring Thickness of Moving Textile Webs by High-Resolution Analog Inductive Sensors

This inductive sensor features a sealed cable input, ensures long-time set-and-forget-it operation, and connects to the machine’s control system thru a flexible PUR-sheathed cable. Using a custom-configured software interface, the output data is displayed numerically and graphically on the PC screen, providing real-time adjustment to the manufacturing process if needed.
